HIXON
Is a settlement located on Highway #97, 55 kilometers south of Prince George, in the North Cariboo. There are a number of stores and motels in Hixon as well as a pub and a gas station. Many residents work at a nearby sawmill in the tiny community of Strathnaver, about 20 kilometers south. Horse raising, logging, and ranching, contribute to Hixon’s economy. The settlement’s name refers to Joseph Foster Hixon, who found gold in the area in 1866. Hixon is considered the halfway point on the stretch of Highway #97 between the major cities of Quesnel and Prince George.
